So off we go to try Barrenjoey House Restaurant – since a new crew has taken over the reins headed by executive chef Joel Robinson whose many feathers in his hat include working under celebrity London chef Mark Hicks (formerly the Ivy Restaurant) . On arrival we were greeted by the wait staff who told us we could sit where we would like as the restaurant was not busy. We went for a table by the window so we could look across to Currawong Beach and see the water and boats.
Now to the important things – was it going to be a good lunch? My partner tried the spaghettini with spanner crab, zucchini flowers with pangrattato on top. The crab was fresh, moist and perfectly cooked – the pasta al dente, as you would expect and overall flavours were well balanced. I had the market fish of the day – barramundi panfried which was moist with a very crispy skin and a nice strong flavour. It was perfect with the chorizo and salsa verde. This was well matched with a glass of Ingram Road Pinot Noir, as was a Geoff Merrill Grenache Rose that my partner had with the crab. For desert we shared affogato.
Verdict: The ingredients were noticeably fresh and well cooked, the flavours were all balanced by experienced hands in the kitchen – it was a good lunch.
PS It was such a perfect summer day in Sydney and we were at Palm Beach – so off for a swim.
