It was our third attempt at getting into 121BC bar in Holt St, Surry Hills – each time the place was full. It is a small narrow room with a communal table – part of one side is the bar and the kitchen is at far end of this room. The room works very well if there are two of you as they tend to sit you next to each other – rather than opposite, which would be too far.
Our sommelier was very, very good – when we asked him to suggest a wine, he really came up with the perfect choice. He was knowledgeable and gave us every bit of info regarding his choice, and we love that. The food was bar food and interesting like small squares of fried polenta with pancetta, onion and tomato sauce. Followed by kale and buffalo mozzarella bruschetta and also one of the best cheese boards we’ve had in a very long time.
The crowd is sexy twenty somethings to match the sexy wait staff who are very attentive.The noise was people noise – the music was very not there, that is the only thing we would change – more up front music. WILL GO AGAIN AND AGAIN!!
